Did you know that your body is constantly communicating with you? It’s true!

It’s asking you for what it needs. It’s showing you the consequences of your choices.

But… are you listening?

It can be easy to misinterpret what are bodies are trying to tell us, and oftentimes, we just flat-out ignore it!

Every little (or big) uncomfortable symptom that you experience is information that your body is trying to convey to you. We can get stuck thinking that these symptoms are normal because so many people experience them, but normal is not optimal. Our bodies are meant to thrive not just survive!

Here are just a handful of common symptoms that you might be ignoring:

Heartburn

While we’ve been led to believe that heartburn is a symptom of too much stomach acid, more often than not, it’s actually a sign of not enough stomach acid! Without the proper amount of stomach acid, our foods are not able to be broken down properly and could be rotting in our stomach. Eew! We need stomach acid for not only breaking down our foods, but also fighting infections. There are other issues that may be leading to your heartburn, so it’s best to work with a practitioner that can help you get to the root cause.

Bloating

We sure joke about bloating a lot, especially after those giant holiday feasts! Thanksgiving pants, anyone? Bloating could be a sign of several things, but the timing of that bloating may be significant as well. Bloating soon after a meal can be an indication of low stomach acid. That food that sticks around too long and rots? Yup, that could be why you’re bloated. If it shows up later, the internal issue may be residing in your small or large intestine.

Airborne Allergies

An allergy begins long before the actual allergic-like symptoms appear. It could have been in the building stages when you were a child, and just now is manifesting itself into those all-too-familiar symptoms of an allergy in your adult life. Since this all happens slowly over time, we don’t notice right away that their is a dysfunctional environment happening in our intestines. This dysfunction can lead to weakening in the lining of the small intestine, which could be allowing partially digested food molecules out into the blood stream. Since our immune system doesn’t recognize these molecules, it will attack. This is what leads to those allergy-like symptoms we experience!

Dark Circles Under Eyes

You might be thinking those dark circles are just because you’re not sleeping well, but it could be a sign of something deeper. Food allergies and poor function of the liver could be at the root. Our liver is a key player in detoxing these allergens that we take into our bodies. If the liver is unable to detox appropriately, that could be keeping these allergens from being disposed of completely.

Constipation or Diarrhea

Constipation is commonly a sign of not enough dietary fiber or water. It could also be a sign of low gastric enzymes and stomach acid, liver and gall bladder congestion, food allergies, mineral deficiency, and even low thyroid function.

Diarrhea can be a sign of several things happening within the body. It can happen from time to time and last a few days, but for some, diarrhea is a chronic issue. This could be from an overgrowth of bacteria or viruses, a sign of parasites, food intolerances or stress. I mean, who isn’t at least a little stressed!? You may also have an issue with the proper digestion and absorption of fats. There are several reasons for diarrhea, so if it occurs often or for long periods of time, it is best to see your healthcare practitioner as soon as possible.

Leg & Foot Cramps

This is typically a sign of mineral deficiency. Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium are all key players here. It’s typically not enough to take the minerals alone, but with other cofactors that are needed to absorb these minerals adequately. We can’t forget that proper digestive function is needed in order for absorption to happen as well. Another thing… We need to remember that diets filled with refined foods and sugars can rob these nutrients from our bodies, too.

Muscles are Easily Fatigued

This could be due to a number of issues. Inadequate dietary fat and poor absorption of essential fatty acids can lead to weakened muscles. The liver and gallbladder may need support in order to breakdown and absorb these fatty acids appropriately.

Irritable if Meals are Delayed

We’ve all been there, right? Feeling hangry (hungry & angry) before meals. This is absolutely a sign of poor blood sugar regulation. If you find yourself feeling this way often, you will greatly benefit from kicking sugar out of your diet and focusing on more nutrient dense foods. The 21-Day Sugar Detox might be a great fit for you!

Difficulty Falling Sleeping

This can be a sign that adrenal support and blood sugar regulation is needed. As the day goes on, cortisol (produced by the adrenal glands) should be decreasing to allow us to fall to sleep at night. For some though, their cortisol levels may be completely out of balance. Adrenal dysfunction is so huge in our modern world, and far more than our sleep is affected by it.
