I constantly hear this when it comes to The 21-Day Sugar Detox: “Oh, I really need that! I’m too scared to do it though.”
Changing the food you eat is hard, right!? Trust me, I get it. Food can be such a personal thing. Suggesting that someone give up the one food they feel like they can’t live without sounds really scary! BUT if you feel this way about any food, whether it’s sugar, your wine, or those potato chips, you probably need a sugar detox. I know, that sucks to hear. You know it’s true though, don’t you?
Today, I want to share with you some of the common questions I hear about the detox, so you can make the best decision for yourself as to whether you think The 21-Day Sugar Detox is right for you.
What the heck is this detox thing anyway?
The 21-Day Sugar Detox is a clear-cut, effective, real-food-based program that supports your body in naturally overcoming sugar cravings. You’ll find increased energy, better, moods, improved sleep quality, and best of all, food freedom!
In my detox groups, we start with 1 week of pre-detox coaching followed by 3 weeks of the detox, where you’ll learn how your body responds to different foods, and how your palate (the way food tastes to you) can change once the sweet stuff is gone. This part is super cool! You’ll notice food just tastes better!
Why should I care about giving up sugar?
Americans are consuming, on average, about 200 pounds of sugar per person, per year! Yikes!
It’s in EVERYTHING! Even if you pride yourself on not having a sweet tooth, but are still consuming refined foods (if it came in a box or bag, it’s likely refined), you’re probably eating more sugar than you ever imagined.
Long term effects of overuse of sugar include:
- Depression & Anxiety
- PCOS & Infertility
- Insulin Resistance & Type 2 Diabetes
- Adrenal Fatigue
- Alzheimer’s Disease, and
- Anemia, to name a few.
It’s crazy to think that these serious conditions could stem from a seemingly innocent ingredient. Even if you aren’t currently dealing with the above conditions, you may be experiencing moodiness, fatigue, restless sleep, frequent colds or flu, and acne, which are all related to sugar use as well.

Do I have to give up grains, legumes and dairy on the 21DSD?
Nope! If you are currently consuming grains (ie pasta, bread, rice, etc.) and legumes, you can still consume legumes and non-gluten containing grains on Level 1 of the 21DSD. If you are also consuming dairy, Levels 1 and 2 both include full fat dairy! Yippee!
Level 3 of the detox is free from grains, legumes and dairy. This is a great level for those that typically avoid these foods or have completed the 21-Day Sugar Detox at Levels 1 or 2 previously.
Will I just be eating boring food for 21 Days?
That’s a giant NOPE! There are hundreds of tasty recipes in the 21DSD Guidebook, 21DSD Cookbook, and online! I even have over 35 of my own recipes that are 21DSD compliant! This program is NOT about deprivation, it’s about nourishing your body with real, delicious foods!
You can even enjoy some non-sweet treats while on the detox! While they don’t contain any sugar or sweet ingredients, you’ll find they start to taste quite sweet after you’ve been avoiding sugar.
I’m scared of missing out on social gatherings with friends! What should I do!?
I hear this one a lot. There’s a big connection between food, beverages and social gatherings. Simply put, you can eat out with friends while you’re on the 21-Day Sugar Detox. During this program, I will help guide you towards smart food choices and what to drink when dining out. You don’t need to miss hanging out with your friends! Remember, it’s only 3 weeks, and I promise it will be worth it!
Want to make it more social during your 3 weeks? How about enlisting a friend to go through it with you! It’s always so much better when you have a buddy by your side!
Will I lose weight on the 21DSD?
While weight loss is not the main purpose of the 21-Day Sugar Detox, many people do lose weight while on the program! Cutting out those inflammatory foods that you may have been consuming previously does wonders for cutting down on inflammation in your body!
Will I be constantly cooking?
Short version, you will likely find that you’re cooking more than you had in the past. That happens when you’re eating real food! I help my detoxers work through smart food preparation and planning so that you can get the most out of your time in the kitchen. There are lots of tricks to making this part go smoothly for yourself so you’re set up for a successful detox!
Why should I have a coach?
Working with a certified 21-Day Sugar Detox coach and Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, such as myself, gives you access to expert coaching so you can get the most out of your detox experience. While you certainly can get the books and do the detox yourself, a coach can be so helpful in getting you through those tough days, setting up accountable, and providing you with a wealth of additional information not found in the guidebook! Another added benefit to working with a coach in a group setting is having a supportive community of your peers that are with you on this journey to better health!
My coaching group is 4 weeks, with 1 week dedicated to getting you prepared for the detox, followed by 3 weeks of coaching through the detox.
Members of my group receive:
- 4 weekly coaching sessions via video/phone conferencing.
- Access to a private Facebook group with daily accountability and coaching.
- Participant Guide
- Welcome Pack set right to you
